There’s no right answer for everyone, but here are some important criteria to consider:

Tuition options

Codeup partners with 8 financial aid providers, including 4 grant partners, 3 loan partners, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. We also offer nearly $200k in scholarships annually. Dev Mountain only uses 2 loan partners. When it comes to investing in your tuition, we’ve got your bases covered.

Most bootcamps teach the same basics of web development: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and SQL. Beyond that, there’s a lot of variety. Codeup teaches an enterprise stack, meaning our curriculum specifically suits the hiring needs of large employers like Oracle, USAA, and Cognizant. Some key differences between what Codeup teaches and Dev Mountain doesn’t are listed below. These tools, while not as sexy sounding as buzzwords like React and Node, teach core programming to build a foundation that makes learning other tech easy:

  • jQuery, the most widely used JavaScript library, which helps teach students how to work with external libraries
  • Spring, a Model-View-Controller (MVC) framework that teaches best practices for building and deploying full-stack applications

Program structure

Programming is like a trade – practice is the most important thing. You learn through an instructor-led, hands on curriculum of over 670 hours. Dev Mountain’s program cuts off at 455 hours. Every hour translates to real world development experience, so time truly is money, and our hiring partners recognize the difference in that background. It’s a bit like comparing a 2 year to a 3 year degree.

Employment Outcomes

Codeup will help you land a job or give you back 100% of your tuition. We put our money on the line with our promise to launch your career. Our grads leverage a 99% employment rate, an average time of 2.1 weeks to hire, and partners like Oracle, USAA, Cognizant, and Accenture. All of that is backed up by the fact that we publish our outcomes through the Texas Workforce Commission and Council for Integrity in Results and Reporting.

Who am I working with?

Codeup was founded in San Antonio in 2013 by 3 co-founders to help people change careers. Today, those 3 co-founders remain our only owners. We are built in Texas and carry no debt or venture capital investment. Moreover, we’re approved by the Department of Veteran Affairs to accept the GI Bill (which is NOT a simple process to work through). Dev Mountain is owned by Strategic Education Inc, which means that your education is in someone else’s hands.

If you’re just looking for a new skill, you can click that back button. If you want a career in software development, Codeup is right for you. As an immersive 22 week career accelerator, our focus on employment outcomes ensures that the return on your investment is worth it.
